Our Estate Planning Process in Texas

We don't sell documents; we design strategy.
Anyone can fill in a template. A good estate plan starts with a conversation about your family, your property, and what you want to happen. The paperwork comes second.
At Alers Law, Attorney Alers guides you through five clear steps. Each one has a purpose, and you always know what comes next. We serve families from our offices in Frisco and Denton, in English and Spanish.
1. Alers Legacy Strategy Session
Before we meet, you complete our secure, confidential online questionnaire. Your answers help us analyze your situation in advance, so the meeting time goes to strategy.
This is our first meeting, with Attorney Alers or a member of our team. We talk through your family, your assets, your goals, and the risks that worry you.
You meet with Attorney Alers or a member of our team, and you leave knowing your options, including whether a living trust, a will, or a combination may fit your situation.
2. Legacy Design Meeting
Now we design your plan together. We decide who will manage your affairs, who inherits, how and when, and what happens if life does not go as expected.
At the end of this meeting, your plan is quoted as one fixed fee. There is no hourly billing.
3. Precision Drafting
Every document is drafted by Alers Law, built to the design we agreed on. This is careful legal work, not fill-in-the-blank forms.
Your documents reflect your family and Texas law. You do not need to do anything during this step. We will reach out if a question comes up.
4. Legacy Walkthrough
Before you sign anything, Attorney Alers walks you through your plan page by page. You see what each document does and how the pieces fit together.
This is your time to ask questions and request changes. We want you to understand your plan, not just own it.
5. Legacy Signing Ceremony
You sign with witnesses and a notary present. It is the formal moment your plan becomes real.
For many families, it is also a meaningful milestone. Clients often bring a spouse, a child, or a trusted person to share it.
After you sign
Signing is not the finish line. A living trust works only for property that has been placed into it. This is called trust funding.
We guide you through retitling your home and accounts. Plans often fall short because this step is skipped, so we treat it seriously.
Life and law both change. Through periodic Legacy Check-ins, we revisit your plan after major life events and legal updates, so it keeps pace with your family.
Who we're a good fit for
Our process suits people who value thoughtful advice and want to understand their choices. That often includes:
- Homeowners who want their property to pass smoothly
- Parents who want to protect their children and name guardians
- Blended families with more complex wishes
- Business owners planning for what happens to the company
- Professionals who want a considered plan, not a quick one
If your main goal is the lowest possible price for a standard form, we may not be the right match. We would rather say so openly. Our work is built around strategy and care.
Investment and fees
Your plan is quoted as one fixed fee after your Legacy Design Meeting, with no hourly billing. You will know the full cost before drafting begins.
The Strategy Session is a paid meeting. If you move forward with your plan, the Strategy Session fee is credited toward it. We will confirm the details when you book, so there are no surprises.

FAQs
Why is the first session paid?
The Strategy Session is a working meeting, not a sales call. We review your situation, explain your options and outline the strategy that may fit your family, so you can decide your next step with clarity.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends on your family and the complexity of your plan. A simple plan moves faster than one involving trusts for children, a blended family, or a business. We will give you a realistic outline at your Strategy Session.
Can we meet virtually or in Spanish?
Yes to both. Attorney Alers is bilingual and meets with clients in English or Spanish, at our Frisco or Denton office or virtually.
What should I prepare for the Strategy Session?
A general picture of your family, including anyone you want to provide for. A list of what you own, such as your home, accounts, insurance, and business interests. Any existing wills or trusts. Rough numbers are fine.
What is trust funding?
A living trust only controls property that has been transferred into it. Trust funding means retitling your home and accounts so they belong to the trust. We guide you through it after signing.
