Who We Help

We work with people who have something meaningful to protect and people who depend on them.

  • Homeowners who want a clear path for the house to reach the right people.
  • Parents of minor children who need to name guardians and plan for a child's care.
  • Blended families who want to provide for a spouse and children from different relationships.
  • Business owners who need their personal plan to work alongside what they have built.
  • Professionals in tech, medicine, finance and corporate leadership whose stock options, RSUs, retirement accounts and insurance need to work together in one plan. We meet virtually and keep the process clear and efficient.

Why Families Plan Now

Life in North Texas moves fast. Homes appreciate, children grow, businesses expand and families change shape.

An estate plan is how you decide, in advance and in your own words, who cares for your children, who manages your affairs and who receives what you have built. Making those choices while you are healthy keeps them in your hands.

Strategy, Not Paperwork

We don't sell documents; we design strategy.

Anyone can download a form. A plan only works if it fits your family, your property and your goals. That takes real conversation first and drafting second.

We begin by learning who you want to protect, what worries you, and what you want to happen if you cannot act for yourself. Then we design the plan and draft it with precision.

Some of the questions we ask may surprise you. Who should step in first if you cannot act? What should happen if a child is young when you pass? How should the home be handled? Clear answers now spare your family guesswork later.

Plans are quoted as one fixed fee after your Legacy Design Meeting. There is no hourly billing, so you can decide with full clarity.

What an Estate Plan Can Include

Every family is different. Depending on your goals, your plan may include:

  • Revocable living trust. Holds your assets and names who manages and receives them.
  • Pour-over will. Directs any remaining assets into your trust.
  • Durable power of attorney. Names someone to handle your financial matters if you cannot.
  • Medical power of attorney. Names someone to make health care decisions for you.
  • HIPAA authorization. Lets your chosen people receive medical information when it matters.
  • Guardian designations. Names who you want to care for your minor children.
  • Directive to physicians. States your wishes about end-of-life medical treatment.
  • Transfer strategy for the home. A deliberate plan for how your house passes to the people you choose.
  • Business succession planning. Who inherits your business, who runs it if you cannot, and how ownership passes without disrupting operations.
  • Planning for business interests. Coordinating your LLC or company agreement, buy-sell arrangements and your trust so they work together.
  • Asset protection strategies. Structuring how you hold assets, within what Texas law allows, to help protect what you have built for your family.

Will vs. Living Trust in Texas

A will names your beneficiaries and your guardians. In Texas, a will generally goes through probate, a court process, before your property passes.

A properly funded living trust can allow assets held in the trust to pass without probate. It can also provide for management if you become incapacitated.

Without a will or trust, Texas law decides who inherits your property. That result may not match what you would have chosen.

Neither choice is right for everyone. The better question is which structure fits your family and property. Read our guide to wills and living trusts in Texas, or take the Will or Trust quiz.

Our Process

Every plan follows five clear steps.

  1. Alers Legacy Strategy Session. Our first meeting, where we review your family, assets and goals.
  2. Legacy Design Meeting. We design your plan together and confirm the decisions that shape it.
  3. Precision Drafting. We prepare your documents carefully to match the design.
  4. Legacy Walkthrough. We review every document with you so you understand what you are signing.
  5. Legacy Signing Ceremony. You sign your plan with the formalities Texas law requires.

After signing, we help with trust funding, which means moving assets into your trust. Periodic Legacy Check-ins help keep your plan current as life changes.

FAQs

What documents do I need for an estate plan?

It depends on your family and property. Many plans include a will or living trust, powers of attorney, a medical power of attorney, a HIPAA authorization and a directive to physicians. Parents also name guardians for minor children.

Does a living trust avoid probate in Texas?

Assets properly transferred into a living trust can generally pass without probate. Assets left outside the trust may still need probate. That is why trust funding is part of our process.

How long does it take to create an estate plan?

Timing depends on the complexity of your situation and how quickly decisions are made. After your Legacy Design Meeting, we explain what to expect for drafting and signing.

Do you meet virtually?

Many planning conversations can take place by video, which helps busy families. Signing must follow Texas formalities, so we will explain how your Legacy Signing Ceremony will work.

Which cities do you serve?

We work with clients throughout Texas. Our offices are in Frisco and Denton, and we meet virtually with families anywhere in the state.

Do you work in Spanish?

Yes. Se habla español. Attorney Alers works with clients in English and Spanish, including meetings and document review.
